Cialis approved for once-a-day use

In late January 2008, Eli Lilly plans to introduce two new lower strengths of Cialis (tadalafil). The new 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets are indicated for daily continuous use in managing male erectile dysfunction. The recommended dosage for daily use is 5 mg once daily, taken with or without food at approximately the same time each day. The dosage may be reduced to 2.5 mg once daily, depending on patient tolerability.

No dosage adjustment is needed when Cialis once-a-day tablets are used in combination with alpha-blockers, protease inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir) or other potent CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole). Dosage adjustments are also not necessary in patients with mild to moderate renal or hepatic impairment.

The new lower strengths will join the existing 10 mg and 20 mg tablets. The higher (10 mg and 20 mg) tablet strengths are approved only for on-demand dosing; they are taken prior to anticipated sexual activity, but are not intended for continuous daily use.
